The materials on this website were provided to network principals with the generous support of the Stuart Foundation, the University of California Davis School of Education and the Center for Applied Policy in Education (CAP-Ed).  The Principals' Network was designed to support principals, and teacher teams, in leading professional learning communities in schools. THE CALIFORNIA PRINCIPALS' SUPPORT NETWORK

The CAPS Network, a program of the UC Davis School of Education's Center for Applied Policy (CAP-Ed), is a multi-year professional learning opportunity for principals and leadership teams focused on high-impact leadership strategies that promote improved student learning and continuous school improvement. Over the span of four years, more than 400 principals and teacher leaders participated in the CAPS Network in cohorts spanning northern and southern California. Principals were provided coaching support between sessions as they implement individually developed action plans for improving their school. Each learning session provided practical tools, protocols and resources that can be implemented immediately.

Continually improving, refining and adjusting the Network content, resources and support structures is a critical component of our work. An outside, independent evaluator assesses the value and impact of the Network each year and provides recommendations for changes and refinements. Additionally, participants provide a written evaluation of each session and this feedback is highly valued and used to adjust and modify the sessions to ensure their needs, questions, fears and challenges are addressed.

FUNDING AND PARTNERSHIPS

The California Principals' Support Network (CAPS Network) was made possible by grant funding from the Stuart Foundation to the Center for Applied Policy in Education at UC Davis in 2016, to support development of a principals' support network at UC Davis and in partnership with the Ventura County Office of Education. In the second year of the program, Ukiah USD partnered with CAP-Ed to form an additional cohort in Mendocino through a CalEd grant from the California Department of Education. In 2020-2021 there were four cohorts of the CAPS Network in California.
